Professional Experience

Application Manager
University of California, September 2008 - present

As the Application Manager for the Payroll/Personnel Services unit, I manage an application development staff of 15-20 programmers, analysts, and system architects. I oversee and am responsible for programming, quality assurance, and software release for all enhancements and modifications to the University’s Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) and Effort Reporting System (ERS). I regularly coordinate with senior leadership on key system-wide technical initiatives such as the University wide salary reduction program. Under my management, we've initiated several key projects to modernize the systems and processes in the unit, including a project to implement a new service-oriented architecture (SOA) for the legacy z/OS payroll system and a project to implement Source Control Management (SCM) software for the IT department mainframe environment.

Quality Assurance Supervisor
University of California, July 2006 - August 2008

In this role I managed submission of all requirements for changes to the University’s Payroll/Personnel System (PPS), coordinated all testing of system changes for PPS software releases, and supervised a team of QA analysts, allocating testing resources and overseeing testing results. In addition I also wrote and reviewed complex functional requirements, specifications, documentation, and project planning deliverables.

HR/Payroll Business Analyst
University of California, November 2002 - July 2006

I worked closely with campus and system-wide HR and Labor Relations specialists to develop HR payroll system solutions. I wrote requirements, worked with programmers to develop web-based and mainframe payroll applications, and crafted functional instructions and help documents.

E-Marketing Operations Manager
Oracle Corporation, December 2001 - September 2002

As part of the QA/Implementation team, I worked closely with editors, business developers and external content providers to create components on My Oracle portal. I performed quality assurance testing for E-Marketing applications, wrote black box and white box testing scenarios, drafted test results documents, and issued release recommendations. I worked with developers and system administrators to support and maintain Oracle E-Marketing applications, train Oracle users, and create essential online help documentation.

JavaScript Instructor
San Francisco State University, College of Extended Learning, summer session

I taught an applied JavaScript course focusing on creating efficient, portable, and cross-browser compatible applications. The syllabus and course materials cover topics ranging from the fundamentals of the core language to generating dynamic content, maintaining state, and utilizing the Document Object Model.

Web Producer
The Webby Awards, January 2000 - January 2001

I planned and specced new site projects, oversaw maintenance of online properties, developed and managed strategic online partnerships, coordinated the efforts of contract programmers, designers, and coders, organized QA testing, analyzed site statistics, and managed newsletter campaigns. I also spent long hours writing HTML, creating and optimizing Web graphics, hacking Perl and SQL code, writing and editing copy, providing technical support, and generally making sure the Web sites were up and running.

Associate Technical Producer
CNET Builder.com, April 1999 - January 2000

After joining the production team as an assistant in April of 1999, I was promoted to Associate Technical Producer in July of the same year and began managing the Assistant Technical Producer. In this position I produced technical content, built reusable HTML templates, wrote and tested JavaScript functionality, and authored product reviews and features.
